Last night's news bulletin has informed us that one of our members Pam & Paul MacFarlane (Mesmereyes Dexters) have been evacuated due to the fires. We are all praying for their safety and hope their house and cattle are OK.
Andrea O'Grady Chairperson The Tasmanian Dexter Promotion Group have been able to source a limited number of DVD's of Carol Davidson's presentation from the 2011 AGM on the History of Dexters. It proved to be very informative and popular with those who attended. Carol has also added a slide show of some of the herds from which the early imported animals were sourced that came into Australia. It is a must have for any Dexter enthusiast and priced at $20 plus postage. Please contact Andrea O'Grady (03) 6496 1969 [email protected] or Marg Rawlings (03) 6429 1287 [email protected] to purchase your copy. Marg Rawlings We have a few cases of "Dexter Red" still available. To clear it out we are offering if for the measly price of just $70 a case!!! Be quick as they definately won't last. This is a quality wine which is great for drinking now or even gift giving at this time of year. Please contact either our Treasurer Peter Fleming or myself for orders.
Moo-ey Christmas Andrea O'Grady Chairperson We decided to attend the Scottsdale Show this year for the first time. It is one heck of a trek but what a lovely show, the locals made us so welcome, had put the straw in the beds for the cattle and couldn't have been more helpful. The grounds were lovely with stalls well set out around the judging rings. We were able to park the camper nearby on the grass and enjoy our time in Scottsdale.
Friday saw the day of judging with a very low key start to the day, with the start of judging at a leisurely 10am and Dexters were on second. Results are below Heifer 1 year 1st - Kywong Golden Girl exhibited by O & J Stack 2nd - Rawlings Golly Miss Molly exhibited by I & P Clayton 3rd - Kirup Park Hannah Montana exhibited by M & M Rawlings Senior Heifer 2 years 1st - Rawlings Fine Wine exhibited by M & M Rawlings 2nd - Rawlings Fantasia exhibited by I & P Clayton Senior Female 3 years and over 1st - Kywong Ellenore exhiited by O & J Stack 2nd - Rawlings Delta Blue exhibited by M & M Rawlings 3rd - Mt Pleasant Eyra exhibited by O & J Stack CHAMPION FEMALE - Kywong Golden Girl RESERVE CHAMPION FEMALE - Kywong Ellenore Bull 1 year 1st - Rawlings Grand Design exhibited by M & M Rawlings Bull 3 years and over 1st Kywong Charlie exhibited by O & J Stack CHAMPION BULL - Kywong Charlie RESERVE CHAMPION BULL - Rawlings Grand Design At Scottsdale they do their Interbreed a bit differently than some of the other shows, they do not do Senior & Junior Champion but rather the winners from the classes both compete in the Interbreed. So the upset of the day was when in the Senior Female Interbreed the two Dexter females Rawlings Fine Wine & Kywong Ellenore were awarded equal third place. We could not believe it, from over twenty entries our Dexters had got a ribbon, what a hoot. Congratulations to all who exhibited and those who came along to help on the day - Jim & Olga Stack, Ian Clayton, Julie Hunt and Michael Finck. Without your support we could not be having the great presence at the shows with our Dexters. We hope to be back next year with a few more of the local exhibitors, it was a most enjoyable couple of days. See you at Deloraine next Saturday 24th November!! Thanks go to Troy Nuttridge from Silver Fern Dexter Stud in Queensland who did an outstanding job on the day judging all of the beef breeds. He made great comments and consistently judged throughout the day. It was so evident when the lineup of Junior Females came out in the Interbreed as they all had the same basic shape and structure and it made Troy's job very difficult to pick his overall champion.
