Thanks to everyone that attended the Dexter Promotion Group of Tasmania's AGM held in the conservatory at Clarendon House.  It was a cold start to the day, but the sun coming into the conservatory soon warmed us all up.  We also enjoyed a beautiful lunch, it was great to catc

A new committee has been elected and those members who put their hands up are Ian Clayton - Chairperson, Derek Pennington - Secretary, Peter Fleming - Treasurer and Marg Rawlings - Promotions Officer.

So we are looking forward to a new year with some exciting projects and opportunites to build a brand for Dexter beef here in Tasmania, with talk mooted about holding a showcase dinner with Dexter beef as the star ingredient and hopefully attract a celebrity chef to add some notoriety to the event.  We are also looking the possibilities of gaining some government funding to enable us to set up a permanent display at Clarendon House, and also further develop branding to help us establish commercial markets for Dexter beef in Tasmania under one banner.

Mountain River Dexter Stud are keen to hold an event at their property in Mountain River, details to follow.  And a cattle preparation day will also be look at in the near future.  If there is anything our members would like us to provide please let one of the committee know, their details are on the Committee Members page.

Also before I close a welcome to two new members, Louella Bovell from Cradoc Dexter Stud and Dean Quinlivan and Milan Tumpach who are still waiting for approval of their stud name.  We hope you enjoy your association with the Promotion Group, I have not met a more motivated group of Dexter breeders anywhere in Australia.

Rural Living Roundup

We had a great day on Sunday 19th May, the site looked good and the cattle were happy.  Tazhunt Dexter Stud had 11month old Huckleberry Finn and 7 1/2 month old Hail Mary O'Shea.  The Rawlings Dexter Stud took along a Small Time Eveready and her 1 month old calf Jinx, Holly O'Shea and High Hope (both heifers).  We had 2 sites booked and the panels tied back to the trailers with the display boards in front to funnel people past the animals.  We had a lot of interest in both purchasing of cattle and the availability of meat.  It was great to talk to so many people.  Quite a number of people had seen us at Agfest.
